Dress You Up In my Love – Madonna

We are joined in The Crypt by our dear friend She Makes War (Aka @warriorgrrl AKA Laura Kidd) as once again we attempt to arrange, record and produce a collaborative cover track, chosen by you, in just one day.

Just like last time, we will be live blogging the days shenanigans from first thing in the morning, until late at night, using the clever “Cover It Live” window below. Expect video snippets, audio teasers, rushed interviews, filthy photographs, and all manner of good old fashion internet chat room nonsense. Join us..

How the songs were submitted:

You can submit your lovingly chosen Crypt Cover suggestions NOW on twitter using the tag #cryptcovers, or pop them in the comments box at the bottom of this post. Please submit as many suggestions as you wish. One of them will take us somewhere fresh and exciting.

5 Things You Should Know About She Makes War

We adore Laura Kidd. Her music is raw, deep and moving, and she is simply captivating in person, even when stood atop a compost heap at our Garden Party last summer. The way she indefatigably smashes new ground as an independent solo artist is an constant inspiration to us, and her creative and technical (geek alert!) talents are seemingly endless. We can’t wait to make beautiful music with her. See Five Things You Should Know About She Makes War Below.

1) Laura Kidd is She Makes War is the London based gloom-pop solo project of multi-instrumentalist and visual artist Laura Kidd, whose second album “Little Battles” came out on April 9th 2012.

2) She’s currently on tour with punk folk singer songwriter Chris T-T and is stopping off for a few days in Leeds before playing The Lantern Theatre in Sheffield on Friday.

3) Her newest video for “Exit Strategy” was shot in the corner of her living room and features her as Ms Pacman trapped in a Groundhog Day meets horror flick scenario. She has previously made videos dressed as a tree, a unicorn and a circus performer.

4) She’s performed on stage and telly with an eclectic bunch of artists including A-Ha (this is awesome, and well worth a watch for a giggle – Hux), Tricky, Duncan James, Alex Parks and Lil’ Chris and currently plays with French electro band The Penelopes… And she’s sung with David Bowie…in Series 2, Episode 2 of Extras. She also had a lovely chat with Stephen Merchant about glasses and made Ricky Gervais laugh.

5) She Makes War lives on the internet at shemakeswar.com and tweets as @warriorgrrl

Judging by the stream of suggestions for cover songs so you might need a bigger Wheel of Doom in the crypt!

Well, someone suggested The Chain but I think Fleetwood Mac doing Tusk would be a better shout. It’s either that or some sort of Billy Joel-Springsteen mash up ;)

Locomotive Breath by Jethro Tull. Gotta get the mad flute in somehow.

@Paddy – I suggested ‘The Chain’ as a first thought but ‘Tusk’ is indeed a good shout – also thought The Pixies ‘Here Comes Your Man’ or Nirvana’s ‘Heart Shaped Box’ – difficult to make the most of the fantastic vocals of SMW with h&s, guitar, drums and whatever other instruments to throw in!
@Alex – Might be best to invite Laura J Martin to do a #cryptcovers session if you want a fantastic flautist, a la Jethro Tull!

Me and my fiance will have been together 5 years tomorrow night…so if you could do “our song” Slide Away by Oasis, we could make it our first dance!

Yes, disgustingly cheesy and I did just do a little sick in my mouth, but hey, the sun;s out :)

XTC – Senses Working Overtime (I’ve never heard this covered and think a Hope and Social/SMW version would be very cool.)

Oooh! what will it be? There’s been such a spread of genres. The latest suggestion I saw of The Cardigans (lovefool) or maybe 80’s power ballad the Bangles (Eternal Flame) – different again and in the hands of h&s and She Makes War who knows whatever the selection!

Loved the Ellen & the Escapades cover of Addicted to Love and Dress You Up is fantastic.

One of my all time fave tracks is Sweet Memory by The Belle Stars (I sort of appear in the video!).

Well done – you’ve definetely found a new fan here!
