UPDATE OVER

Crypt Covers Logo

Well… here we go again! We’re finishing of our Crypt Covers year on Tuesday the 18th December with the awesome Duke Special. You must know what to do by now… You send us suggestions using the power of the internet (suggestions must be a song title AND artist) and the fickle and all knowing wheel of doom makes the choice on the morning of the cover. We and the rather ‘mazing Shot By Sodium than make a video and record the cover before midnight. Comment on this blog, or tweet your suggestions using the #cryptcovers hashtag. Your suggestion may reflect the season. Or it may not… GO MENTAL! Suggestions must be in by 11am on the 18th!

TELL US ABOUT THE DUKE!

You can find Duke on Twitter as @DukeSpecial.

Who is Duke Special? Duke is an Irish Singer Songwriter who’s slightly insane work rate has resulted in him performing musicals, song cycles based on photographs, inspired by films, with orchestras and ensembles of all kinds and releasing 8 albums and 5 ep’s in the last 10 years. Artists such as Tim Minchin and Neil Hannon have performed with him and he has played with Van Morrison, Crowded House, the Beautiful South and The Muppets (fact). Venues that Duke has performed at range from the Museum of Modern Art in New York to Glastonbury Festival in… ermm… Glastonbury. We’re very lucky to have him join us before he plays his last show of the year at Shepherd’s Bush Empire on the 20th December. Occasionally in between all the art and excitement he writes a stunning pop tune too…

Check out this gorgeous song Condition recorded on just one microphone at RAK Studios in August earlier this year.

5 Things You Should Know About Duke

1) Duke Special once pulled a hamstring playing American Football against the US Secret Service
2) Duke Special has met Darth Vader
3) Duke Special has released *14* different records
4) Duke Special wrote the theme tune for and appeared in Sesame Tree, a Sesame Street production filmed in Belfast

Tense! So many great song choices it makes your head spin but like in the Highlander movies ‘There can be only one!’

Anyone else love the suggestions floating around for a Crypt Cover Album and a festival next year to get all of the artists together?
